Nifty and Sensex Rise Amid Energy Sector Surge and IT Sector Slump

Sensex and Nifty Today 19 December 2023: Indian stock markets ended Tuesday’s volatile session with minor gains. The domestic markets opened higher following gains from Wall Street and soon turned red. The indices recovered in the afternoon session following positive cues from Asian markets and ended slightly higher.

The market sentiments were downbeat as the provisional data from the National Stock Exchange (NSE) showed that foreign institutional investors (FIIs) net sold shares worth Rs 33.51 crore on December 18.

However, losses were capped as traders took some support with the report that domestic rating agency ICRA revised India’s FY24 GDP growth forecast to 6.5% from 6.2% earlier. The rating agency further said that the revision has been done because it feels the deflation in commodity prices will be sustained, and there are expectations of better growth in the October-December period than previous estimates.

Meanwhile, India and the UK have finished the 13th round of negotiations on the Free Trade Agreement after four months of in-person and virtual meetings and the next round will be held in January.
