Stock Market Today: Nifty end near 15700, Sensex up 462 pts
Sensex and Nifty Today: The Indian stock market opened higher on Friday amid positive cues from the US markets overnight and Asian markets in the morning. Nifty today opened at 15657.40 levels up by 100.75 points while Sensex made a positive opening of 388.52 points at 52654.24 levels. The benchmark indices traded on a strong note on the last day of the week and ended in the positive territory.
Stock market news and updates today
Indian markets got trimmed in the afternoon deals as a private survey said that a majority of urban Indians interviewed felt that their cost of living has gone up to some extent compared to the previous year due to rising inflations. Adding some more concerns, RBI Governor Shaktikanta Das said that India’s central bank is on course to bring down prices but the retail inflation rate is likely to remain above the top end of its mandated target band until December.
However, the markets extended their early gains in the afternoon session again,, as Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that mutual cooperation between the BRICS nations could help in global recovery after the coronavirus pandemic.
On the global front, Asian markets are trading higher on Friday tracking the positive cues from the US markets overnight. Consumer prices in Japan were in line with expectations and unchanged from the previous month, it stood at 2.5 percent in May. European markets are trading higher on Friday taking cues from the US and Asian markets.
Sensex and Nifty at the close today
The Nifty index gained by 142.60 points or 0.92 percent and closed at 15699.25 levels while Sensex was up by 462.26 points or 0.88 percent and finished at 52727.98 levels. The Bank Nifty index ended higher today by 492.45 points or 1.49 percent on the spot level and ended at 33627.45
The broader markets outperformed the benchmark indices, as the Nifty midcap index gained by 369.10 points or 1.42 percent and closed at 26449.05 levels. The Nifty smallcap index closed higher by 144.95 points or 1.76 percent and finished at the 8390.65 level
Nifty top gainers and losers today
The top gainer in the Nifty50 index was M&M, Hero Motocorp, IndusInd Bank, Bajaj Finance, and HUL whereas the top loser was Tech Mahindra, Infosys, TCS, HCL Tech, and Coal India.
The top gainers in the Nifty midcap index were CG Consumer, Manappuram Fin, and IDFC First Bank and the top losers were Mindtree, Mphasis, and L&T Technology
The smallcap top gainers were Strides Pharma, Vakrangee, and Sun Pharma Adv and the top losers were Trident, KEC Intl, and JK Lakshmi Cement.
The most active stocks in the Nifty index in terms of value were Reliance, Maruti, and Infy. The most active stocks in terms of volume were ONGC, NTPC, and Tata Motors
On a sectoral front, barring IT all sectoral indices were closed in the green today. The sectors that led the rally were Media, Auto, Banking, PSU Banking, Metals, and Financial Services.
