Weekly Global Stock Market Indexes
Globally, stock market indexes closed higher in a volatile trading week ended 24 September. The US market indexes rebounded after the early sell-off and ended the volatile trading week on a slightly higher note. The fears that a possible default by China’s second-largest property developer and the cautious approach by the traders ahead of the Fed’s meeting dragged down the markets in the early week.
However, the clarity on the asset tapering and interest rate hike decision by the Federal Reserve improved the market sentiments in the latter days of the week.
The European markets gained during the week as optimism about a continuing economic growth offset concerns about the gradual withdrawal of central bank stimulus support. However, the upside remains capped due to China’s property developer Evergrande’s debt-strapped worries.
Japan’s stock market index closed lower in a volatile trading and truncated week. BoJ holds interest rates and confirmed its stance on maintaining asset purchases at the current level.
China’s Stock Market index closed marginally lower during the holiday-shortened week ended 24 September. Markets traded negatively due to the concerns about the debt crisis of property developer Evergrande. However, the interest repayment news by Evergarnde, later during the week eased the concern and helped the market to erase most of the weekly losses.
