Nifty Ends Near 19600, Sensex Climbs 232 pts; Pharma, IT, Sectors Top Gainers

 

Sensex and Nifty Today Aug 7, 2023: Indian stock market indexes ended higher on Monday amid volatility. The market sentiments were buoyant tracking stable Asian and European markets. 

Traders were encouraged, as K V Kamath, chairman of the National Bank for Financing Infrastructure and Development (NaBFID), expressed his confidence in India’s potential to achieve the $5 trillion economy target within 18 months. 

Meanwhile, with an aim to review the progress of talks on the proposed free trade agreement (FTA), high-level meetings between India and the European Union (EU) will be held this month. The EU officials are coming for the G20 trade ministers meeting on Aug-24-25 in Jaipur. 

 

Stock Market Indexes Today

The Nifty 50 index closed higher by 80.30 points or 0.41 percent and closed at 19597.30 levels while the Sensex was up by 232.23 points or 0.35 percent and finished at 65953.48 levels. The Bank Nifty index ended slightly lower by 42 points or 0.09 percent on the spot level and closed at 44837.50 levels.

The broader markets also closed higher in line with their larger peers today, as the Nifty midcap index was up by 193.55 points or 0.51 percent and closed at 37824.15 levels. The Nifty smallcap index ended higher by 26.25 points or 0.22 percent at 11724.30 levels.

 

Nifty 50 top gainers & losers 

 

The top gainers in the Nifty 50 index were Divis Lab, M&M, SBI Life, LTIM, and Adani Ports and the top losers were Britannia, SBI, Bajaj Auto, Tata Motors, and Axis Bank.

The top gainers in the Nifty midcap index were IRFC, Max Health, and PayTM, and the top losers were ABFRL, Balkrishna Ind, and Fortis

The smallcap top gainers were HFCL, VIPIND, and Cyient while the top losers were Carborundum, GNFC, and India Cement.

The most active stocks in the Nifty index in terms of value were HDFC Bank, SBI, and ICICI Bank. The most active stocks in terms of volume were SBI,, Tata Steel, and ICICI Bank.

On the sectoral front, Pharma, IT, and Realty closed higher while the sector that closed in the red were PSU Bank, Media, and Bank

 

Global Stock Market Today

 

Asian stock market indexes closed mixed on Monday, as investors are looking for economic data from China. Shanghai index closed lower by 0.59% ahead of Trade data on Tuesday and the Inflation rate on Wednesday. Hang Seng erased early losses and ended flat.

Nikkei erased early losses and closed marginally higher. BoJ’s summary of opinions of the last meetings said it still has a “significantly long way to go” before revising its stance on its negative interest rate policy.  SET Composite ended higher, as Thailand’s July CPI inflation rate rose less than expected. South Korea’sKospi erased early gains and closed in the red

European stock markets are trading lower following the losses from Wall Street on Friday.  Investors remain cautious ahead of inflation data across the world this week.
