Global market cues

Global market indexes mostly ended in the red during the week. The US benchmark indexes closed in the red as investors were concerned about the rising interest rates after getting the high inflation signals. Investors remained worried about rising inflation and asset tapering.

The weak economic data, high government bond yields, and the weekly jobless claims that rose unexpectedly in the US also hit the market sentiments.

European markets closed mixed for the week as investors were worried about Federal Reserve monetary policy tightening faster than it was expected earlier. The downside of the markets remained capped after Germany’s economy recovered, UK’s economy strengthen, and Eurozone industrial production rebounded. Some countries have also eased the covid related restrictions during the week.

Japanese index closed in the red on a weekly basis as investors concerns about more aggressive monetary policy tightening by the US. Chinese also fell on a weekly basis as refinancing difficulties in the country troubled property sectors. China’s largest banks have now become more selective about funding real estate projects. The inflation has slowed more than expected in December in China and the trade surplus rose to a record high.
