Weekly Global Stock Market Indexes

stock market Analysis

The US markets finished higher on a weekly basis on the back of strong economic signals and positive earnings surprises. The US market indexes started the week on a weak note and later gained momentum to the end, as evidence shows that supply pressures and inflation are at a peak. The ease of US treasury bond yields and declining delta variants also helped the US markets to close higher.

European markets rallied on optimism about the continuing economic recovery and strong corporate earnings. The core eurozone bonds yields finished lower last week and UK’s GDP in August grew due to the reopening of the hospitality industry also helped the markets to trade higher. However, the upside remained capped as eurozone Industrial Production fell in August due to supply chain bottlenecks and slowing global trades.

Japan’s stock market index closed higher during the week ended 14 October. The government its economic outlook report has retained its overall assessment for the Japanese economy as continuing to pick up, pointing to signs of recovery in private consumptions. The government also said that the pace of recovery was slowing due to the severe situation caused by the coronavirus pandemic. However, the report said the exports were increasing but at a slower pace.

China’s market index, Shanghai closed in the red as the economic expansion slowed in the third quarter. The energy crisis and concerns about property developers were the reason for last week’s dip in China’s market.
