Nifty50 ends above 16600, know the top gainers today
Nifty50 & Sensex Today: It was a negative opening for the Indian stock markets on Thursday amid weak global cues. Nifty50 today opened at 16481.65, down by 41.1 points while Sensex made a flat to the positive opening, up by 1.27 points only. Indian market key indexes erased their intraday losses in the late morning session and closed in the positive territory.
News that influenced Indian stock markets today
The domestic market sentiments were upbeat as ICRA Ratings in its report has said that manufacturing sector capital expenditure is on course for a leg-up with overwhelming responses to the government’s production-linked incentives schemes, especially for lithium-ion batteries, pharma, and solar module segments.
The market sentiments got a further boost as the crude oil prices got corrected from their recent high after Sudi Arabia had indicated to pump more production.
However, the upside was limited as Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) continued their selling spree in the Indian equity cash segment, on Wednesday they offloaded shares worth Rs 1930.16 crores, exchange data showed.
On the global front, the other Asian market indexes were closed in the red as traders were worried that the central bank’s move to hike interest rates to control inflation can push the economy into recession. European markets are trading higher on Thursday, FTSE is not trading today due to a holiday.
Nifty50 and Sensex at close today
The Nifty50 index gained by 105.25 points or 0.64 percent and closed at 16628 levels while Sensex was up by 436.94 points or 0.79 percent and finished at 55818.11 levels. The Bank Nifty index ended slightly lower today by 7.15 points or 0.02 percent on the spot level and ended at 35613.65
The broader markets also closed higher in line with their larger peers The Nifty midcap index gained by 191.25 points or 0.68 percent and closed at 28491.15 levels. The Nifty smallcap index closed higher by 56.70 points or 0.61 percent and finished at a 9290.55 level
Nifty top gainers and losers today
The top gainer in the Nifty50 index was Reliance, Bajaj Finserve, Sun Pharma, HCL tech, and TCS whereas the top losers were Apollo Hospital, Hero Mororcorp, Eicher Motor, HDFC, and Power Grid
The top gainers in the Nifty midcap index were Adani Total Gas, L&T Technology, and Federal Bank and the top losers were Navin Fluorine, IRCTC, and Castrol.
The smallcap top gainers were Century, Karur Vysya, and Fine Organics and the top losers were Future Retail, Kajaria Ceramics, and Lux Industries
The most active stocks in the Nifty index in terms of value were Reliance, INFY, and TCS The most active stocks in terms of volume were ONGC, Coal India, and NTPC
On a sectoral front, Oil & Gas, IT, Metal, Media, and Realty were closed higher today. The sectors that closed in the red were Auto, Financial Services, and Banking.
