Sensex regains 54000, Nifty above 16100 led by Metals, PSU Bank

 

Sensex and Nifty Today: Indian stock markets made a gap-up opening on Thursday amid positive global cues. Nifty today opened at 16113.75 levels, up by 123.95 points while Sensex made a positive opening of 395.71 points at 54146.68 levels. The benchmark indices remained positive throughout the day and later extended their early gains

Indian stock market sentiments were upbeat as crude oil prices fell sharply and trading at below $100 per barrel. Investors remained optimistic as Citigroup has forecasted oil could hit $65 per barrel by year-end, as lower crude oil could ease domestic inflation. 

Meanwhile, the principal economic advisor with the Department for promotion of industry and internal trade, Rupa Dutta, said that the government is working to reduce compliance issues with a focus on ease of doing business and has introduced the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC) keeping in mind.

Adding more comfort, a private report stated that online retail spending in India is ready to jump nearly sixfold to $300 billion by 2030 with an expansion in the number of digitally- influenced shoppers and online shoppers.

On the global front, the other Asian markets were closed in the green on Thursday tracking positive cues from the US markets and after South Korea posted a current account surplus of $3.86 billion in May. European markets are trading higher on Thursday, as chipmakers gain after positive earnings from South Korean electronics giant Samsung.

Sensex and Nifty at the close today

 

The Nifty index gained 143.10 points or 0.89 percent and closed at 16132.90 levels while Sensex was up by 427.49 points or 0.80 percent and finished at 54178.46 levels. The Bank Nifty index ended higher today by 596.05 points or 1.74 percent on the spot level and ended at 34920.30

The broader markets outperformed the benchmarks today, as the Nifty midcap index gained by 368.10 points or 1.35 percent and closed at 27527.45 levels. The Nifty smallcap index closed higher by 134.90 points or 1.57 percent and finished at the 8703.55 level

 

Nifty top gainers and losers today

 

The top gainer in the Nifty50 index was Hindalco, Titan, Tata Steel, JSW Steel, and Larsen whereas the top loser was Dr. Reddy’s Lab, Cipla, Bharti Airtel, HUL, and Nestle.

The midcap top gainers were Canara Bank, Fortis Health, and Bank Of Baroda, and the top losers were Dr. Lal Path Labs, Ramco Cements, and Bank of India.

The top gainers in the Nifty smallcap index were Ceat, NBCC, and HEG, and the top losers were GMM Pfaudler, Linde India, and KEC Intl.

The most active stocks in the Nifty index in terms of value were Reliance, Titan, and HDFC Bank. The most active stocks in terms of volume were ONGC, Hindalco, and NTPC.

On a sectoral front, barring FMCG all other sectoral indices were closed higher today. The sectors that led the rally were Metals, PSU Bank, Realty, Consumer Durables, and Banking.
