Nifty end below 17900, Sensex down 413 points today
Sensex and Nifty Today 15 Sept 2022: Indian stock market indexes opened higher on Thursday tracking positive cues from the Asian market peers. Nifty today opened at 18046.35 levels, up by 42.6 points while Sensex made a positive opening of 107.4 points at 60454.37 levels. Indian equity market indexes, soon after opening turned negative and later closed in the red on the weekly derivate expiry day.
Stock Market News and Updates Today
The market participants turned cautious after Fitch Ratings slashed India’s economic growth forecast for the current fiscal year to 7 percent from the previous estimate of 7.8 percent. Some concern also came as the Apex body for exporters Federation of Indian Export Organisations (FIEO) stated that with global trade facing headwinds due to the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, merchandise exports from India are expected to grow at a slower pace during the current fiscal. It may rise about 11 percent to over $470 billion. Exports grew 45 percent year-on-year (YoY) to $422 billion in 2021-22.
Besides, the foreign institutional investors (FIIs) offloaded Rs 1,397.51 crore worth of equity shares from the domestic markets on Wednesday. Meanwhile, traders have overlooked the ease of WPI numbers of 12.41 in August from 13.93 percent reported in July.
On the global front, Asian markets were closed mostly in green following the broadly positive cues from Wall Street overnight, as energy stocks saw significant strength amid spiking crude oil prices. However, traders remained cautious due to persistent worries about high inflation and the tighter policy stance of global central banks. European markets are trading higher at this moment following positive cues from global peers
Sensex and Nifty at the close today
The Nifty50 index was down by1 26.35 points or 0.70 percent and closed at 17877.40 levels while the Sensex declined by 412.96 points or 0.68 percent and finished at 59934.01 levels. The Bank Nifty index ended lower today by 196.20 points or 0.47 percent on the spot level and ended at 41209.20
The broader markets closed mixed today, as the Nifty midcap index gained by 123.95 points or 0.38 percent and closed at 32415.70 levels. The Nifty smallcap index closed lower today by 1.75 points or 0.02 percent at 10074.95 levels.
Nifty 50 Stocks top gainers and losers today
The top gainers in the Nifty50 Stocks were Maruti Suzuki, Eicher Motors, Adani Ports, Power Grid, and NTPC and the top losers were Hindalco, Infosys, Tech Mahindra, Cipla, and Hero Motocorp.
The midcap top gainers were Apollo Tyres, Bombay Burmah, and Indian Hotels and the top losers were Ajanta Pharma, Laurus Labs, and Prestige Estate
The top gainers in the Nifty smallcap index were Ceat, Kajaraia Ceramic, and Delta Corp and the top losers were Vakrangee, PVR, and NALCO
The most active stocks in the Nifty index in terms of value were INFY, ICICI Bank, and Maruti The most active stocks in terms of volume were Tata Steel, NTPC, and Power Grid.
On the sectoral front, Auto and Metals were closed higher today. The sectors that closed in the red were Media, IT, Pharma, and Realty.
