Indian stock market on a weekly closing
Weekly Nifty top gainers and losers: Indian markets gained more than 2 percent during the week ended 1 April. The market bounced back after a fall of two consecutive weeks. The positive global cues and DIIs buying in the cash market helped the Indian markets to trade higher during the truncated week ended 1 April.
On Tuesday, Indian markets started the week on an optimistic note amid surges in coronavirus cases in the country. The market fell sharply on Wednesday due to some volatility in the US bond yields. On Thursday the market bounced back due to US president Joe Biden’s $ 2.25 trillion infrastructure plan announcement.
Sensex on a weekly basis gained 1021.83 points or 2.08% and closed at 50029.83 levels while Nifty closed higher by 360.05 points or 2.48% and ended at 14867.05 levels. The Bank Nifty on the spot price made a positive closing of 539.8 points or 1.62% on a weekly basis and finished at 33858 levels.
The midcap and smallcap outperformed the benchmark indices during the week ended 1 April. The Nifty midcap index was up by 903.8 points or 3.90% and closed at 24117.75 levels. The small-cap index closed higher by 299.9 points or 3.75% and ended at 8282.55 levels

Weekly Global markets updates
Global markets closed higher during the week ended 1 April, Friday was a holiday for most of the global markets on account of Good Friday. The US markets started the week on a mixed note but the hopes of economic growth and Biden’s $2.5 trillion infrastructure plan helped the US markets to close higher. The upside in the market remained capped, as on Thursday, the weekly jobless claims data increased compared to the previous week.
European markets gained during the week ended 1 April despite lockdown in France and higher inflation data in Eurozone. The market traded higher on optimism about a speedy global economic recovery after the US infrastructure plan was announced.
The Japanese market closed higher during the week, Some disappointing economic data, the surge in new coronavirus cases saw the market falter till Wednesday. The US president Biden’s announcement of a more than USD 2 trillion infrastructure plan renewed the hopes of global economic recovery.
The Chinese market also closed higher during the week. The strong Industrial profit and positive PMI numbers had supported the Chinese markets to trade higher. However, the upside remained capped due to a small number of new coronavirus cases reported last week.
Weekly FIIs and DIIs Investment
On a weekly basis, FIIs were the sellers and DIIs were the buyers in the cash market segment. FIIs sold Rs 767.03 crores while DIIs bought Rs 3965.69 crores in the cash market during the truncated week ended on 1 April. However, on the last day of the week, FIIs bought and DIIs sold in the cash market.
