Nifty & Sensex Trades Lower, Border Markets Underperform the Benchmarks

Sensex and Nifty Live Today, 20 March 2024: Indian stock market indexes opened positive on Wednesday amid favorable global cues. The Nifty today opened higher at 21843.90, up by 26.45 points, while the Sensex made a positive opening of 24.81 points at 72036.86 levels. The Bank Nifty index also opened slightly higher, by 8.1 points, at 46392.90 levels.

The other major Asian stock market indexes are trading mostly higher at 9.45 am IST.  The Kospi index is gaining the most up over 1% at this moment, while Jakarta and SET Composite are trading in the red.

Indian stock market indexes erased early gains and are trading lower. The Nifty 50 index trades lower by 50 points or 0.23 percent and at 21766 levels while the Sensex is down by 144 points or 0.20 percent and at 71872 levels. The Bank Nifty index is trading lower by 248 points or 0.55 percent on the spot level and at 46130 levels.

The broader markets are trading lower today, as the Nifty midcap index is down by 391 points or 0.85 percent and at 45536 levels. The Nifty smallcap index is trading lower by 129 points or 0.88 percent at 14458 levels.

 

Stock Market Updates Today

 

Among the sectors, IT and Auto are gaining the most, while selling pressure is in the Metal, Media, and Pharma sectors.

The top-gaining stocks in the Nifty 50 index are Eicher Motors, Maruti, Nestle, IndusIndBank, and TCS and the top losing stocks are Hindalco, Tata Steel, Tata Motors, UPL, and Tata Consumers.

The most active stocks in NSE in terms of value are Eicher Motors, HDFC Bank, and Maruti, and in terms of volume Tata Steel, SBI, and ICICI Bank
