Global stock market updates

European market indexes closed in the red on Friday, falling in line with the global sell-off sparked by surprised US inflation figures. Investors fear that this may impact aggressive interest rate hikes by the Federal Reserves in its next meeting in March. However, most of the indexes in the region managed to trim their intraday losses in the end.

The US stock market opened higher on Friday as investors digested the CPI reading announced on Thursday. Later the stock market indexes and Treasury bond yields fell on Friday, as investors flocked to safe-haven assets due to the escalated geopolitical tension between Russia and Ukraine.

Conclusions

Indian stock markets fell sharply on the last day of the week due to weakness in the global markets. The sharp rise in US inflations hit the market sentiments as this may impact negatively in the next Federal Reserve meeting. After the high inflation data, investors are now worried about  US central bank policy tightening measures next month, which may result in strong FIIs outflow from emerging markets.

On Monday, Asian markets may open in the red as US markets erased all early gains on Friday and fell sharply due to Russia and Ukraine tension.
