Weekly Global Stock Market Indexes
The global stock markets closed mixed during the week ended 12 November. The US market indexes finished lower due to the concerns about higher inflation and interest rate hike sooner than expected. The key indexes fell sharply on Wednesday following news that the CPI-based inflation jumped 0.9 percent, the highest in 3 decades. The US Treasury yields also increase on the higher inflation data.Â
However, the downside of the markets remained capped due to weekly jobless claims hitting a new pandemic-era low.
European markets rose on a weekly basis due to ultra-loose monetary policy and optimism about economic growth helped to moderate the inflation concerns. Eurozone Industrial Production fell in September, although the extent of the decline was less than expected due to increase output of nondurable consumer goods.
However, the upside of the market remained capped due to the surge in coronavirus cases in the continent, as several countries reimposed partial lockdown.
Japan’s Nikkei 225 ended flat during the week ended 12 November. The stimulus package from the new government, positive earnings reports from corporates, and expectations to maintain low-interest rates by the Central banks were positive for the markets. However, the surge in the producer’s price index and tightening of monetary policy were the concerns for the investors during the week.
China’s Shanghai gained during the week amid speculation that Beijing would announce easing measures to help indebted property companies as the specter of defaults continued to loom over the sector. The producer price accelerated greater than it was forecasted was negative for the market.
FIIs and DIIs investment
On a weekly basis, Foreign Institutional Investors (FIIs) were the sellers and the Domestic Institutional Investors (DIIs) were the net buyers in the cash market segments. FIIs sold Rs 4901.76 crores while DIIs bought Rs 5393.52 crore in the cash market segment during the week ended 12 November.Â
