Stock Market Today: Sensex, Nifty50 end slightly lower
Stock Market Today 6 Sept 2022: Indian stock markets opened higher on Tuesday tracking positive cues from Asian and US futures. Nifty today opened at 17695.70 levels up by 29.9 points while Sensex made a positive opening of 38.39 points at 59285.36 levels. Indian markets traded volatile and later closed marginally lower today.

The domestic equity benchmarks managed to keep their head above water most of the day, with both Sensex and Nifty traded quite above their neutral lines. The market participants took some solace as RBI governor Shaktikanta Das said despite the latest headwinds arising from the Jackson Hole summit leading to extreme volatility, the country’s banking system and financial markets are strong enough to withstand such pressure.
The local markets got some support as Commerce and Industry Ministry Piyush Goyal highlighted India’s stable economic conditions during the Covid-19 pandemic and said that the country has emerged as a trusted partner of the world. The market sentiment become subdued, as the Finance Ministery in its report on India’s external debt rose by 8.2% YoY to $620.7 billion as of March 2022.
On the global front, the other Asian market indexes mostly closed in the green on Tuesday, after China promised to speed up the rollout of policy changes to boost economic growth, while. Australia’s central bank raised its benchmark interest rate. European stock markets are trading higher after a sharp selloff in the previous session, tracking positive cues from their Asian peers.
Nifty50 and Sensex at the close today
The Nifty50 index was down by 10.20 points or 0.06 percent and closed at 17655.60 levels while the Sensex declined by 48.99 points or 0.08 percent and finished at 59196.99 levels. The Bank Nifty index ended lower today by 139.25 points or 0.35 percent on the spot level and ended at 39666.50
The broader markets outperformed the front line indexes today, the Nifty midcap index was up by 183.75 points or 0.58 percent and closed at 31706.05 levels. The Nifty smallcap index closed higher today by 28.45 points or 0.29 percent at 9759.85 levels.
Nifty50 Stocks top gainers and losers today
The top gainers in the Nifty50 Stocks were Apollo Hospital, Bharti Airtel, NTPC, Shree Cement, and Tata Steel and the top losers were Bajaj Finserve, Tata Consumer, Britannia, UPL, and Kotak Bank
The midcap top gainers were Apollo Tyres, Varun Beverages, and Shriram Trans and the top losers were Dhani Services, Syngene Intl, and Federal Bank
The top gainers in the Nifty smallcap index were GM Pfaudler, Kalpataru Power, and Wockhardt and the top losers were Mazgaon Dock, Ujjivan Small, and Future Retail
The most active stocks in the Nifty index in terms of value were Reliance, HDFC Bank, and ICICI Bank The most active stocks in terms of volume were Tata Steel, NTPC, and ITC
On the sectoral front, Metals, Oil & Gas, Healthcare, PSU Bank, and Consumer Durables were closed in the green today. The sectors that closed in the red were FMCG, Media, Pvt Banks, Financial Services, and IT
