Stock Market Today: Nifty end lower on monthly F&O Expiry
Stock Market Today 25 Aug 2022: Indian stock markets opened higher on Thursday amid positive cues from Wall Street and other Asian market peers. Nifty today opened at 17679 levels, up by 74.05 points while Sensex made a positive opening of 230.55 points at 59315.98 levels. The domestic markets erased all gains in the last hour and closed lower today.

Indian markets traded above their neutral lines most of the day. In the last hour markets erased all early gains and closed in the red today. The sustained buying by the FIIs and positive global cues supported the domestic market in the first half. The market participants bet on recently beaten-down stocks and shrug off the worries about Fed’s interest rate hike concerns temporarily.
The domestic market sentiments got boosted, as per the latest ASSOCHAM- D&B Small Business Confidence Index, with a pick-up in demand, as many as 80 percent of the small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) anticipated an increase in their domestic order book in the third quarter of calendar year. However, markets turned negative in the last hour due to profit booking on the monthly F&O expiry.
On the global front, the other Asian market indexes closed mostly in the green today tracking positive cues from Wall Street. The market sentiments were upbeat, as traders indulged in picking up stocks at a bargain after most of the indexes in the region mostly fell for 6 to 7 days in a row. European markets are trading higher on Thursday, taking their cues from positive US and Asian markets.
Nifty 50 and Sensex at the close today
The Nifty 50 index was down by 82.50 points or 0.47 percent and closed at 17522.45 levels while the Sensex declined by 310.71 points or 0.53 percent and finished at 58774.72 levels. The Bank Nifty index ended lower today by 87.75 points or 0.22 percent on the spot level and ended at 38950.75
The broader markets closed mixed today, as the Nifty midcap index was down by 18 points or 0.06 percent and closed at 30942.90 levels. The Nifty smallcap index closed higher today by 42.40 points or 0.45 percent at 9529.55 levels.
Nifty top gainers and losers today
The top gainers in the Nifty 50 index were Shree Cements, Divis Lab, Hindalco, Eicher Motors, and Grasim whereas the top losers were Adani Ports, Bajaj Finance, Power Grid, Infosys, and NTPC
The midcap top gainers were BHEL, L&T Finance, and City Union Bank and the top losers were Coromandel int, Nippon, and Emami
The top gainers in the Nifty smallcap index were Indian Bank, IDFC, and Alok Industries, and the top losers were Wadhardt, Hind Copper, and APL Apollo
The most active stocks in the Nifty index in terms of value were Bajaj Finance, Reliance, and HDFC Bank The most active stocks in terms of volume were Tata Steel, SBI, and ONGC
On the sectoral front, PSU Bank, Realty, and Consumer Durables sectors closed in the green while IT, Metals, Pharma, FMCG, and Oil & Gas closed in the red today
