The market today: Nifty and Sensex today closed in Mixed, latest stocks in the news

 

Nifty & Sensex Today: It was a negative start for the Nifty and Sensex today. Buying in heavyweights provided some support to the Indian equity market today. Nifty midcap and smallcap continued its northwards journey.

In the end, Nifty and Sensex today closed in mixed. On the global front, Asian markets were trading mixed as investors sentiment was boosted by data showing that China’s economy grew in line with expectations.

 

Nifty & Sensex Today:

Nifty today closed in red by 3.10 points and at 12352.40 while Sensex gained 12.81 points and closed at 41945.37. Bank Nifty declined 263.20 points or 0.83% and closed at 31590.70.

The Nifty midcap 100 index gained 88.80 points or 0.49% and closed at 18073.90. Whereas the Nifty smallcap 100 index gained 17.20 points or 0.27% and closed at 6288.10.

The gainers in the Sensex today are Bharti Airtel,  Reliance, Sun Pharma, HCL Tech and Maruti Suzuki. The losers in the Sensex today are IndusInd Bank, SBI, HDFC, ICICI Bank and Larsen.

In the Nifty midcap space, the gainers are Sterlite Techno, Torrent Pharma and the losers are Reliance Infra, Reliance Capital. In the Nifty smallcap space the gainers today are Rallies India, Ashoka Builcon and the losers are Jet Airways, CG Power.

Among the sectors, the gainers are Retail, Oil & Gas, Manufacturing, Capital Goods and Consumer Durables. The sectors that closed in red are Banking & Fiance, Metal, Infrastructure, IT & Software, and Insurance.

The FIIs are the buyers and DIIs are the seller in the cash market today. FIIs bought Rs 264.26 crores and DIIs sold Rs 500.17 crores in the cash market today.

 

Sensex stocks in news today

HCL Technologies reported a 16% YoY and 14.6% QoQ rise in its net income. It has beat the street estimates. It has reported a consolidated net profit of Rs 3037 crores compared to Rs 2757.90 crores in the last year the same period. The share price of HCL Technologies gained 0.94% today and closed Rs 598.80 per share.

IT major TCS reported slow growth in Q3 earnings but its margin growth improves. It has reported a 0.20% YoY rise in net profit at Rs 8118 crores compared to Rs 8105 crore reported in the same quarter last year. The company revenue rose 6.7% to Rs 39,854 crores. The share price of TCS fell 0.88%  and closed at Rs 2219.10 per share today ahead of Q3 earnings.

Reliance Q3 earnings reported a 13.5% rise in net profit to a record of  Rs 11,640 crores. The company’s net profit was reported at Rs 10,251 crores in the last year the same period. The consolidated revenue from operations during the fell 2.5% to Rs1.5trilion as against Rs 1.61 trillion in the last year the same period. The shares of Reliance Industries gained 2.80% and closed at Rs 1581 per share.

The Yes Bank tanks 7% in the morning after Moody places long term foreign currency under review. The share price has recovered most of its losses, in the end, it fell 1.63%  and closed at Rs 39.30 per share.

 

Mid & Small Cap stocks in news today

Metropolis Healthcare’s board has approved the acquisition of a 51% stake in Shraddha Diagnostic Centre (I) Pvt Ltd. The share price of Metropolis Healthcare gained 1.66% and closed at Rs 1653.10 per share.

Alipurduar Transmission, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Kalpataru Power Transmission, has successfully connected Element-1. The share price of Kalpataru Power Transmission gained 1.77% and closed at Rs 446 per share.

Karnataka Bank reported its Q3 net profit slipped 12% to Rs 123.14 crores as compared to 140.01 crores in the same period last year. The Banks share price falls 4.65%  on account of poor Q3 numbers and closed at Rs 74.80 per share.

The Board of Piramal Enterprises has approved the disinvestment of a stake in the healthcare insights and analytics business, health by the company directly and through its wholly-owned subsidiaries including PEL-DRG Dutch Holdco BV, to Clarivate Analytics Plc. The share price of Piramal Enterprises gained 5.21% and closed at Rs 1627.40 per share.

Rallies India has reported consolidated Q3 net profit at Rs 38.14 crore as compared to Rs 13.88 crore in the same period last year. It is 174.78% up from the last year. The Net sales stood Rs 533.60 crore in December 2019, up by 27.85% from Rs 417.35 in December 2018. The share price of Rallies India gained 13.02% and closed at Rs 218.25 per share.

Jayshree Tea has entered an agreement with Grand Lacs Trading SA, Belgium to sell its stake in two of its tea estates in East Africa namely Mata & Gisakura. The share price of Jayshree Tea has gained 6.12% and closed at Rs 57.25 per share.

 

Other small-cap stocks in news today

Unitech has clarified that it has not received any Enforcement Directorate (ED) notice regarding the alleged siphoning of Rs 1600 crore by the company’s promoter. The share price of Unitech has locked 5% upper circuit and closed at Rs 1.15 per share

The Supreme court has dismissed a review petition filed by telecom companies seeking relief from the Adjusted Gross Revenue (AGR) verdict. The share price of Vodafone Idea plunges 39% after the verdict and closed at Rs 4.50 per share.

Crude and Rupee updates:

Brent crude oil future is trading higher today. The Brent crude oil future is trading at $64.92 per barrel, trading almost 0.46% higher from yesterday’s close. The Indian rupee closed 0.23% weaker, it closed at Rs 71.08 against the US dollar.

 

Conclusions:

Indian benchmark indices Nifty and Sensex today closed in mixed. Banking stocks were trading negatively in the last two days whereas the midcap and smallcap trading positively. Monday, the market will first react to the Q3 earnings on heavyweights stocks like TCS, RIL, HCL Tech, and HDFC Bank.
