Stock market news and updates

The domestic markets traded in the red, as China reported surges in Covid-19 cases in the capital Beijing. The market sentiments got dented as FIIs net offloaded shares worth Rs 751.20 crore the last Friday, according to the provisional data available at NSE.

Traders were also concerned as the latest payroll data released by the Employees Provident Fund Organisation showed that the number of new formal jobs created fell for the second consecutive month in September, declining 9 percent sequentially to 930000.

However, investors have overlooked former Niti Aayog Vice-Chairman Rajiv Kumar’s statement that India will still grow at 6-7 percent in the following 2023-24 fiscal even as the economy may be affected by uncertain global conditions.

On the global front, most Asian market indexes closed in the red on Monday, despite the broadly positive cues from global markets on Friday. On Monday, the Asian markets opened in the red, as traders reacted to the fresh COVID-19 outbreak and restrictions in China with a 5-day lockdown in Guangzhou.

Meanwhile, the People’s Bank of China left its benchmark lending rates unchanged for the third consecutive month. European markets are trading lower following the negative cues from Asian markets.
