Closing Bell: Sensex, Nifty ends flat, today’s top gainers and losers

 

Top Gainers and Losers Today: Indian stock markets opened slightly lower on Thursday following negative cues from other Asian market peers. The Nifty today opened at 17201.45 levels, down by 12.15 points while Sensex made a negative start at 57755.40 levels, down by 51.09 points. After a few minutes of trading, markets turned positive and traded above their neutral lines. In the end markets closed flat to the negative today..

The market sentiment was negative as India recorded a dramatic surge in its Omicron variants, reported more than 200 cases. The markets soon recovered after opening in the red and entered into green territory on account of buying in IT, and pharma stocks. 

Later the market sentiments got boosted as the Federation of Indian Export Organisation (FIEO) said the country’s exports are expected to register a healthy growth rate in the financial year 2022-23 and might touch $530 billion as exporters are flushed with orders. It further added that additional exports will come from some of the production-linked incentive (PIL) sectors in the next fiscal.

Meanwhile, traders took note of the I-T department’s statement that over 5 crore income tax returns (ITR) for the current financial year ended March 2021 have been filed so far.

On the global front, Asian markets closed mixed on Thursday tracking the mixed cues overnight from Wall Street as investors are uncertain about the potential impact of the fast-spreading new covid variant. The European markets are trading almost flat with low volume as many traders remain away from their desks until the new year.

 

Sensex and Nifty at the Close

 

At the close, Nifty down 9.65 points or 0.06 percent and closed at 17203.95 levels while Sensex declined by 12.17 points or0.02 percent and finished at  57794.32 levels. The Bank Nifty index closed positive today, it was up by 18.20 points or 0.05 percent on spot and ended at  35063.60 levels.

The broader markets closed mixed today, as the Nifty midcap index was down and smallcap index ends positive today. The Nifty midcap index was down by 112.05 points or 0.37 percent and closed at 30023.25 levels. The Nifty smallcap index gained by 26.75 points or 0.24 percent and finished at   1131.70 levels.

 

Nifty Top Gainers and Losers

 

The top gainers in the Nifty 50 index were NTPC, IndusInd Bank, HCL Tech, Titan and Cipla. Whereas the top losers were Bajaj Auto, Reliance, JSW Steel, Tata Steel, and Maruti.

The top gainers in the Nifty midcap index were Oil India, Dhani Services, COFORGE Ltd. and the losers were RBL Bank, Adani Total Gas, and Vodafone Idea. 

The top gainers in the Nifty smallcap index were Graphite India, HEG, Kalpaturu Power and the losers were Delta Corp, Carbourndum, and Birla Corp.  

The most active stocks in the Nifty index in terms of value were Reliance, Power Grid, and SBI. The most active stocks in terms of volume were Power Grid, NTPC, and SBI

On a sectoral front, IT, Pharma, Consumer Durables, FMCG, and Banking were closed in the green today. The sectors that closed in the red today were Oil & Gas, Metal, Realty,Auto, and Financial Services.
