Sensex, Nifty 50 end marginally lower amid volatility

 

 

Sensex and Nifty 50 index at the close today: The domestic market indexes recovered most of their intraday losses and closed marginally lower today. 

The Nifty 50 index ended lower by 35.15 points or 0.19 percent and closed at 18385.30 levels while the Sensex declined by 103.90 points or 0.17 percent and finished at 61702.29 levels. The Bank Nifty index closed lower by 54.25 points or 0.13 percent on the spot level and ended at 43359.50

The broader markets also closed lower following their larger peers. The Nifty midcap index was down by 69.85 points or 0.22 percent and closed at 32186.85 levels. The Nifty smallcap index declined by 43.80 points or 0.44 percent and closed at 10020.20 levels.

 

Nifty 50 index top gainers and losers today

 

The top gainers in the Nifty 50 index were Adani Enterprise, TCS, Reliance, IndusInd bank, and Axis Bank the top losers were SBI life, Eicher Motors, UPL, Tata Motors, and HUL

The top gainers in the Nifty midcap index were Indiabulls Hsg, Ipca Labs, and Cummins, and the top losers were Godrej prop, Max financials, and City Union Bank

The smallcap top gainers were IOL Chemicals, Rail Vikas, and PNB Housing while the top losers were Heidleberg Cem, Sterling Wilson, and JB Chemical 

The most active stocks in the Nifty index in terms of value were Adani Enterprise, Infy, and Axis Bank The most active stocks in terms of volume were Tata Steel, Tata Motors, and Axis bank

On the sectoral front, IT, Metals, and Oil & Gas sectors closed in green. The sectors that closed in the red were Realty, Media, Auto, and FMCG

 

Global stock market updates

 

On the global front, other Asian markets closed with deep cuts on Tuesday following the negative cues from Wall Street overnight and concern about the surge in covid cases in China. Nikkei fell more than 2 percent as the Bank of Japan (BoJ) modified its yield curve control tolerance range while holding its ultra-low benchmark interest rates steady, yen strengthens against the dollar after the policy while stock markets fell.
