Nifty and Sensex Dip as IT & Finance Drag! Market Update

Sensex and Nifty Today Sept 18, 2023: Indian stock market indices opened lower on Monday, following the losses from Asian and US markets. The Nifty index opened lower by 36.4 points at 20155.95 levels, while Sensex also made a lower opening of 173.06 points at 67665.58 levels. The Bank Nifty opened negatively at 130.55 points at the 46100.95 level.

Market Live at 9.50 am IST, the Indian stock market indices, Sensex and Nifty are trading marginally lower by 0.18 percent and 0.10 percent respectively. The Bank Nifty is trading lower by 0.21 percent at 9.50 IST. The broader markets are trading mixed, as the Nifty mid-cap index is trading lower by 0.10 percent, while the smallcap index is trading higher by 0.26 percent.

Among the sectors, PSU Bank, Auto, and Pharma sectors are gaining the most while IT, Financial Services, and realty are trading lower.

The top-gaining stocks in the Nifty 50 index are M&M, HDFC Life, Cipla, Bajaj Auto, and Hero Motors and the top losing stocks are Hindalco, Infy, HDFC Bank, Coal India, and TechM, 

The most active stocks in NSE in terms of value are Tata Steel, HDFC Bank, and Reliance, in terms of volume Tata Steel, SBI, and Coal India.

 

Asian Stock Market Live Updates Today

 

The other Asian stock markets are trading lower on Monday following the negative cues from Wall Street on Friday and ahead of the top Central Bank’s interest rate decisions. The central bank of the US, UK, and Japan will announce their monetary policy decision later this week. China will announce its loan prime rate decision for 1yr and 5yr during the week.

Japan’s Nikkei is not trading today due to a public holiday. Australia’s S&P/ASX started the week down by 0.58 percent. South Korea’s Kospi is also trading lower by 0.87 percent. The Shanghai index erased early losses and trading flat while Hang Seng is also trading lower by 1.41 percent.

Elsewhere, Straits Times, SET Composite, Jakarta, and Taiwan are also trading in the red at 9.10 am IST.
