Nifty, Sensex end flat amid volatility, top gainers & losers

 

 

Sensex and Nifty at the close today: Indian stock market indexes trim their opening losses and traded almost flat in the morning session on Wednesday. The domestic market traded volatile in the last hour and closed slightly below their neutral lines today.

The Nifty 50 index declined 9.8 points or 0.05 percent and closed at 18122.50 levels while the Sensex closed lower by 17.15 points or 0.03 percent and finished at 60910.28 levels. The Bank Nifty index ended lower by 31.80 points or 0.07 percent on the spot level and ended at 42827.70

The broader markets closed mixed today as the Nifty midcap index was up by 41.80 points or 0.13 percent and closed at 31325.55 levels. The Nifty smallcap index declined by 6.7 points or 0.07 percent and closed at 9639.10 levels.

 

Nifty top gainers and losers today

 

The gainers in the Nifty 50 index were Titan, M&M, Power Grid, Maruti, and UPL and the top losers were Bharti Airtel, Hindalco, Tata Steel, Bajaj Finance, and Cipla

The gainers in the Nifty midcap index were Adani Total Gas, JSW Energy, and RBL Bank and the top losers were Union Bank, Amara Raja Battery, and Bank of India

The smallcap top gainers were Ircon International, RITES, and Rossari while the top losers were Aegis Logistics, Indian Bank, and Carborundum

The most active stocks in the Nifty index in terms of value were Reliance, ICICI Bank, and Infy. The most active stocks in terms of volume were Tata Steel, Power Grid, and ONGC

On the sectoral front, Consumer Durables, Oil & Gas, Auto, Media, and Realty closed higher while Pharma, PSU Bank, IT, Metals, and Financial Services sectors closed in the red. 

 

Global stock market updates

 

The other Asian markets were mostly closed in the red on Wednesday tracking mixed cues from Wall Street overnight. Investors were also cautious and were looking for direction after China took further steps toward reopening its COVID-battered economy. 

European key indexes are trading mixed. London equity markets are back on the trading floor after a long weekend and trading higher while CAC and DAX are trading marginally lower. Investors are enthusiastic about China reopening but are also concerned about the supply chain due to rising covid cases in China.
