Nifty end near 18200, Sensex up 327 pts, Metal shines

 

 

Sensex and Nifty at the close today: Indian stock market indices extended early gains and closed higher. The Nifty 50 index gained 92.15 points or 0.51 percent and closed at 18197.45 levels while the Sensex closed higher by 327.05 points or 0.54 percent and finished at 61167.79 levels. The Bank Nifty index ended up by 216.65 points or 0.50 percent on the spot level and ended at 43203.10

The broader markets outperformed the benchmarks today, as the Nifty midcap index was up by 277.35 points or 0.88 percent and closed at 31786.45 levels. The Nifty smallcap index gained by 67.30 points or 0.69 percent and closed at 9798.60 levels.

 

Nifty top gainers and losers today

 

The gainers in the Nifty 50 index were Tata Steel, Hindalco, ONGC, Tata Motors, and ICICI Bank and the top losers were Asian Paints, Titan Company, Divis Lab, Bajaj Auto, and Hero Motorco

The gainers in the Nifty midcap index were Sail, Power Finance, and IDFC Bank and the top losers were Adani Total Gas, Dr. Lal path Labs, and Page industries, 

The smallcap top gainers were IRB Infra, PNB Housing, and Hind Copper while the top losers were MCA India, IOL Chemicals, and JK Lakshmi Cement.

The most active stocks in the Nifty index in terms of value were Tata Steel, Reliance, and Infy. The most active stocks in terms of volume were Tata Steel, Hindalco, and Tata Motors

On the sectoral front, Metals, Media, Realty, PSU Bank, and Financial Services closed higher while Pharma and Consumer Durable sectors closed in the red

 

Global stock market updates

 

On the global front, most of the Asian key stock markets were closed today on account of the New Year. South Korea`s manufacturing activity registered a steeper downturn towards the end of 2022 as subdued demand drove output and new orders down.

The survey results from S&P Global showed that the factory Purchasing Managers` Index slid to 48.2 in December from 49.0 in November. In Europe, UK’s FTSE is having a holiday today due to New Year while CAC and DAX are trading higher at this moment (3.30 pm IST)
