Stock Market News Today

Bears were holding a tight grip over the Indian markets throughout the day, as Sensex and Nifty traded below their psychological levels due to negative cues from the global markets. Investors got cautious as a private report stated that RBI’s surprising move to hike interest rate is due to fear of shocking inflation numbers in April.

Adding some more worries, India has raised concerns at the World Trade Organisation (WTO) over a host of trade barriers built-in by Indonesia, including export restrictions on palm oil and import curbs on bovine meat and automotive ( auto) parts, holding that such measures have adversely impacted India.

On the global front, other Asian markets were mostly closed in the red tracking negative cues from Wall Street overnight. The sentiments were downbeat as Hong Kong retail sales declined for the second straight month in March. Investors were concerned about rising inflations and economic slowdown in China, the second-largest economy. European markets are trading in the deep red amid concerns about surging inflation and rate hike, investors are now eyeing the latest US payroll data expected later in the day.
