Nifty ends above 19400, Sensex up 165 pts, IT, Realty stocks gain

 

Sensex and Nifty Today July 13, 2023: Indian stock markets erased most of their early gains in the last hour and ended with minor gains. The domestic markets witnessed correction in the last hour due to a profit booking at a higher level after indices hit a new high in the first half. Markets were volatile due to the expiry of index options on the NSE.

 

Stock Market Indexes Today

 

The Nifty 50 index closed higher by 29.45 points or 0.15 percent and closed at 18413.75 levels while the Sensex was up by 164.99 points or 0.25 percent and finished at 65558.89 levels. The Bank Nifty index ended higher by 25.60 points or 0.06 percent on the spot level and closed at 44665 levels

The broader markets underperformed their larger peers today, as the Nifty midcap index was down by 293.80 points or 0.81 percent and closed at 36114.35 levels. The Nifty smallcap index ended lower by 112.85 points or 1.00 percent at 11165.85 levels.

 

Nifty 50 top gainers & losers 

 

The top gainers in the Nifty 50 index were TCS, Hindalco, Infy, BajajFinserve,  and TechM  and the top losers were Power Grid, UPL, Coal India, Maruti, and BPCL 

The top gainers in the Nifty midcap index were Policy Bazar, Coforge, and Jindal Steel  and the top losers were Federal Bank, Patanjali, and JSW Energy

The smallcap top gainers were Tejas Network, TanlA Platforms, and FACT while the top losers were Brightcom Group, MahaBank, and Manappuram

The most active stocks in the Nifty index in terms of value were HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, and Reliance. The most active stocks in terms of volume were Tata Steel, ICICI Bank, and Power Grid.

On the sectoral front, PSU Bank, Media, and Energy closed in the deep red while IT, Realty, and Financial Services gained the most.

 

Global Stock Market Today

 

European stock markets are trading marginally higher after cooler-than-expected US inflation data released on Wednesday and as the UK GDP contracted 0.1% in May, less than market expectation.

The other Asian stock markets indexes mostly closed with solid gains on Thursday. Nikkei and Shanghai gained over 1 percent while Kospi also ended with a decent gain. Hang Seng is trading higher around 2.5% due to a rally in tech stocks.
