Nifty ends at 19778, Sensex up 351 pts; PSU Bank, Realty stocks gain

 

Sensex and Nifty Today July 26, 2023: Indian stock markets closed on a strong note Wednesday amid mixed global cues. The domestic markets opened higher and extended their early gains, as Bulls held a tight grip over Dalal Street. Though some cautiousness was seen ahead of the US Federal Reserve interest rate decision outcome later in the day.

The substantial gains in industry majors like Larsen & Toubro, Reliance Industries, and ITC helped indices to maintain a gaining rally. Traders took note of Minister of State (MoS) for Finance Pankaj Chaudhary’s statement that the Centre has devolved over Rs 3.09 lakh crore to states till July of the Rs 10.21 lakh crore budgeted to be transferred in the current fiscal (FY23). He said there is no pendency on the part of devolution payable to states.

Stock Market Indexes Today

The Nifty 50 index closed higher by 97.70 points or 0.50 percent and closed at 19778.30 levels while the Sensex was up by 351.50 points or 0.53 percent and finished at 66707.21 levels. The Bank Nifty index ended higher by 217.35 points or 0.47 percent on the spot level and closed at 46062.35 levels

The broader markets also ended higher today, as the Nifty midcap index was up by 162.45 points or 0.44 percent and closed at 37050.10 levels. The Nifty smallcap index ended higher by 20.05 points or 0.17 percent at 11578.95 levels.

Nifty 50 Top Gainers & Losers 

The top gainers in the Nifty 50 index were L&T, ITC, Britannia, Reliance, and Sun Pharma and the top losers were Bajaj Finance, Bajaj Finserve, M&M, TechM, and Apollo Hospital

The top gainers in the Nifty midcap index were Idea, PEL, and Balkirishna Industries  and the top losers were Mankind Pharma, Gland Pharma, and Syngene

The smallcap top gainers were RBL Bank, Amber, and BSE while the top losers were CanFin Home, Trevini, and Deepak Nitrate.

The most active stocks in the Nifty index in terms of value were HDFC Bank, Tata Motors, and Bajaj Finance. The most active stocks in terms of volume were Tata Motors, Tata Steel, and ITC.

On the sectoral front, barring Auto all other sectoral indices closed in the green with PSU Bank, Realty, and FMCG sectoral indices gaining the most

Global Stock Market Today

Asian stock markets are mostly closed lower on Wednesday ahead of the US Fed’s interest rate decision. Traders already priced in the 25 bps rate hike in today’s Fed meeting outcome. Fed Chair Powell’s press conference after the meeting will be crucial for further guidance.

Australia’s inflation in the first quarter came lower compared to the first quarter, S&P/ASX 200 ended around 1 percent higher at close. The other key Asian stock market indexes Nikkei, Kospi, Hang Seng, and Shanghai were closed marginally lower on Wednesday.
