Stock Market News Today

Traders were concerned as the UN had downgraded India’s economic growth projection for 2022, due to the impact of the ongoing Ukraine war. Further, adding some cautiousness, a private report stated that after crossing the $500-billion market in the first 11-months of the current financial year, the country’s import bill is set to hit record highs in FY22 and probably will touch $600 billion.

However, the downside was limited as the payroll data by the minister of statistics and program implementation, released on Friday, went up in January. The data shows, net new subscriber addition under the EPFO stood at 1.52 million in January 2022, 20.6% more than 1.26 million added in December 2021.

On the global front, most of the Asian markets closed in the red today despite positive cues from the US markets overnight. Traders kept an eye on developments out of Europe, where President Joe Biden is meeting with U.S. allies in Brussels after imposing additional sanctions against Russia. European markets are mostly trading in the red as UK’s retail sales data disappoints.
