Market Live Today: Sensex, Nifty Surge as Banking & Financial Sector Leads the Charge

Indian Stock Market Live Today, 12 March 2024: Indian stock market indexes opened flat to the positive on Tuesday, amid mixed global cues. The Nifty today opened edged higher at 22334.45, up by 1.8 points, while the Sensex made a positive opening of 13.78 points at 73516.42 levels. The Bank Nifty index also opened slightly higher by 23.5 points at 47327.85 levels.

The other major Asian stock market indexes are trading mostly in the green at 9.45 am IST. Japan’s Nikkei is down more than 0.54%, as corporate inflation rose in January. Meanwhile, Hang Seng is gaining the most in the region, up 1.74%.

Indian stock market indexes extended their early gains. The Nifty 50 index traded higher by 103 points or 0.47 percent and at 22435 levels while the Sensex is up by 454 points or 0.62 percent and at 73960 levels. The Bank Nifty index trades higher by 427 points or 0.90 percent on the spot level at 47750.

The broader markets are trading lower today, as the Nifty midcap index is down by 187 points or 0.38 percent and at 48590 levels. The Nifty smallcap index traded lower by 89 points or 0.58 percent at 15308 levels.

Among the sectors, the Nifty Bank, Financial Services, and IT sectors are gaining the most, while Realty, FMCG, and Media are falling.

The top-gaining stocks in the Nifty 50 index are HDFC Bank, TCS, HDFC Life, Reliance, and ICICI Bank and the top losing stocks are ITC, Cipla, Nestle, Hind. Unilevel, and JSW Steel.

The most active stocks in NSE in terms of value are HDFC Bank, TCS, and ICICI Bank, and in terms of volume are ITC,  Tata Steel, and SBI
