Market News Today 16 March: Indian stock markets are trading higher, Metal stocks are down

 

Market news today 16 March: Indian stock markets opened higher today as expected amid positive Asian markets cue. Nifty opened at 14996.10 levels, up by 66.6 points while Sensex made a positive opening of 213.34 points at 50608.42 levels. The Bank Nifty on the spot price opened at 35352, up by 169.45 points.

At 9.45 am IST, Sensex and Nifty are trading higher by 0.26% and 0.19% respectively while the Bank Nifty on the spot price is trading marginally down by 0.27%

Asian Paints, UPL and Titan are trading as top gainers in the Nifty50 index whereas Hindalco, Tata Steel, and JSW Steel are trading as the top losers. The most active stocks in the Nifty50 index are Adani Ports, SBI, and Reliance.

On a sectoral basis, IT& Software, Insurance, Infrastructure, and FMCG sectors are trading higher whereas Metals and Banks are trading marginally down at 9.45 am IST

Asian markets are trading in the green tracking the positive cues from Wall Street. Nikkei and Hang Seng are trading higher by 0.56% and 0.55% respectively while Shanghai is trading 0.40% up. SGX Nifty is trading 53 points up at this moment. The cues getting from the Asian market are positive. The Indian stock markets are expected to open positively today.

The US markets closed higher on Monday as investors are optimistic about the growth that will pick up in the second half of the year due to accelerated vaccine rollout. The US markets index Dow and S&P 500 gained 0.53% and 0.65% respectively while Nasdaq was up by 1.05% on Monday.

European markets decline on Monday on coronavirus vaccine news. The European countries had temporarily halted the use of the Astra Zeneca vaccine. The European market index FTSE and CAC fell o.17% while DAX was down by 0.28% on Monday.

Indian stock markets closed lower on Monday as traders are concerns about weak macro data and the recent surges in coronavirus cases. Sensex and Nifty declined 0.78% and 0.68% respectively on the first day of the week. FIIs and DIIs both were sellers in the cash market segment. FIIs sold Rs 1101.35 crores while DIIs sold Rs 749.71 crores in the cash market segment on Monday.

As per the data released by the commerce and industry Ministry on Monday India’s exports grew for the third straight month in February. The total outbound shipments grew 0.65% last month, slower than the 6.16% growth seen in January.

 However, the gold imports surged almost 124% on the year, leading to a 7% rise in overall imports and widenings trade deficit to $12.62 billion from $10.16 billion in the previous year.

According to Nomura India, business activity in India picked up in the second week of March after recording a fall in the previous month. Business Resumption Index (NIBRI) improved to 95.7 for the week ended 14 March as against 95 on the previous week, Nomura said on Monday
