Market live today 19 March: Indian stock market is trading in the red, Nifty trading below 14,500

 

Market Live today 19 March: It was a negative opening for the Indian stock market today as indicated by the global peers. Nifty opened at 14471.15 levels, down by 86.7 points while Sensex made a negative opening of 335.33 points and opened at 48881.19 levels. The Bank Nifty on the spot price opened a gap-down today by 266.4 points at 33590.40 levels.

At 9.45 am IST, the Sensex and Nifty are trading lower by 0.89 percent and 1 percent respectively. The Bank Nifty on the spot price is trading 1.09 percent down from the previous close.

HCL Tech, Kotak Mahindra, and Bharti Airtel are trading as the top gainers in the Nifty50 index whereas Tata Motors, ONGC, and GAIL are trading as the top loser. The most active stocks at this moment in the Nifty50 index are Tata Motors, Reliance, and ITC.

On the sectoral front, all major sectors are trading in the red at this time. The sectors that are dragging down the markets are Automobiles, Capital Goods, Infrastructures, Metals, Oil & Gas and Banking.

Asian markets are mostly trading in the red today tracking the overnight negative cues from the US markets. Nikkei and Hang Seng are trading lower by 0.84 percent and 0.70 percent respectively. While Shanghai is trading 0.77 percent down. SGX Nifty is trading 70 points down at this time indicating a negative opening for the Indian stock market today.

The US markets fell on Thursday after the selling pressure witnessed in technology and high growth-share due to the rise in bond yield. The US market index Nasdaq and S&P 500 slipped 3.02 percent and 1.48 percent respectively while Dow declined 0.46 percent on Thursday.

In European markets, automakers lifted the German DAX at a record high on Thursday. The markets closed in the green on the back of Fed Reserves pledge to keep the interest rate at low. The BOE on Thursday leaves UK’s interest rate at a record low and would continue bond selloff as it happened. The European market indices FTSE and CAC gained 0.25 percent and 0.13 percent respectively whereas DAX gained 1.23 percent on Thursday.

Indian stock market closed lower due to the concern about surges in coronavirus cases in India. Sensex and Nifty fell 1.17 percent and 1.11 percent respectively on Thursday. FIIs were buyers and DIIs were sellers in the cash market segment. FIIs bought 1258.47 crores while DIIs sold Rs 1116.17 crores in the cash market segment on Thursday.

According to MSME Minister Nitin Gadkari said that the Credit Guarantee Scheme for Subordinate Debt ( CGSSD), 343 number guarantees have been issued amounting to Rs 40.56 crores as of March 10. The cumulative sanction and disbursement amounts under the Emergency Credit Line Guarantee Scheme (ECLGS) to MSMEs stood at Rs 2.46 lakh crore and Rs 1.81 lakh crores respectively as of February 28.

The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) on 18 March said India’s Coronavirus stimulus package fell short of initial announcements leading to a lower than expected economic performance in 2020. UNCTAD expects India’s GDP to contract 6.9 percent in 2020 and grow 5 percent in 2021.

The US jobless claim rose to a one-month high by 45000 to 770000 in the week ended March 13, as the US government announced on Thursday. The economist expected the new claims would fall to 700000 during the week.
