Market Live Today 23 July: Indian share markets are trading flat, Metals & IT stocks are in focus

 

Market live today, 23 July: Indian share markets opened in the green on Friday amid positive global cues. Nifty opened at 15856.80, up by 32.75 points while Sensex made a positive opening of 130.66 points at 52967.87 levels. The Bank Nifty spot price also made a higher opening at 34748.35 levels, up by 71.05 points from the previous close.

At 9.55 am IST, Indian benchmark indices, Sensex and Nifty erased all morning gains and trading almost flat. The Bank Nifty spot level is also trading flat at this moment.

SBI Life, HCLTech, and Ultratech Cement are trading as the top gainers in the Nifty 50 index while TechM, Tata Motors, and L&T are trading as the top loser.

On a sectoral front, Metals, IT, and Construction Materials sectors are trading higher whereas Infrastructure, Banking, Finance, and Real Estate sectors are trading lower.

Asian markets are mostly trading in the green on Friday. Hang Seng and Shanghai are trading lower by 0.84 percent and 0.32 percent respectively. Nikkei is not trading today due to a holiday. SGX Nifty is up by 20 points and trading at 15834 levels. The indications getting from the global markets are positive. The Indian share markets are likely to open in the green today.

The US market indexes closed marginally higher on Thursday as investors turned their focus into corporate earnings. The US market indexes Dow and S&P 500 slightly gained by 0.07 percent and 0.20 percent respectively. The Nasdaq Composite also closed higher by 0.36 percent on Thursday.

European market Indexes except FTSE closed in the green on Thursday after the European Central Bank (ECB) pledged to keep interest rates at record lows for a longer time, while strong corporate earnings also boosted market sentiments. European market indexes, FTSE fell by 0.43 percent whereas CAC and DAX gained 0.26 percent and 0.60 percent respectively.

Indian share market closed more than a percent higher on Thursday amid positive cues from the global markets. The benchmark indices, Sensex and Nifty closed higher by 1.22 percent and 1.23 percent respectively. The FIIs were the seller and DIIs were the buyers in the cash market on Thursday. FIIs sold Rs 247.59 crore while DIIs bought Rs 942.55 crores in the cash market on 22 July, Thursday.

The RBI deputy governor T Rabi Sankar on Thursday said that the central bank will be shortly conducting pilots for the country’s digital currency to be used in the wholesale or retail segment. The RBI is a currency-working phased implementation strategy for digital currency without any disruptions.

The biggest business house in India Reliance Industries will announce corporate earnings for the April-June end quarter on Friday, 23 July.

The number of Americans seeking unemployment benefits rose last week from the lowest point of the pandemic. The unemployment benefits rose last week even after the job markets is rebounded on the strength of the reopened economy. The U.S Labor Department on Thursday said that Jobless claims increased last week to 419,000, the highest in two months, from 368,000 the previous week.
