Closing Bell: Nifty index end above 18600, Sensex up 160 pts

 

Closing Bell: Sensex and Nifty Index today- Indian stock market indexes opened slightly higher on Thursday after closing negative in the previous session. The Nifty today opened at 18570.85 levels up by 10.35 points while Sensex made a positive opening of 93.36 points at 62504.04 levels. The domestic markets extended their early gains despite negative cues from the Asian markets.

 

Stock Market News and Updates Today

 

The domestic markets gained on account of buying Capital goods and banking stocks, Bank Nifty index outperformed the benchmarks today. Traders were optimistic as the government extended export benefits under the tax refund scheme-RoDTEP- to chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and products of iron and steel for a specified period with a view to boosting exports of these goods, as exports contracted in the month of October.

The market sentiments got further boosted as the Indian rupee got appreciated against the US dollar at the Interbank Foreign Exchange on increased selling of the US currency by exporters and banks.

On the global front, Asian markets mostly closed in the red as traders expressed concerns about the outlook for interest rates and a global recession.  European stock market indexes are trading lower as the sentiments are dampened due to worries about the looming recession.

Closing Bell- Sensex and Nifty 50 index today

 

The Nifty 50 index was up by 48.85 points or 0.26 percent and closed at 18609.35 levels while the Sensex gained 160 points or 0.26 percent and finished at 62570.68 levels. The Bank Nifty index jumped by 498.15 points or 1.16 percent on the spot level and ended at 43596.85

The broader markets outperformed the benchmark today. The Nifty midcap index gained 195.65 points or 0.61 percent and closed at 32503.95 levels. The Nifty smallcap index was up by 33.30 points or 0.33 percent and closed at 10080.70 levels.

 

Nifty 50 index top gainers and losers today

 

The top gainers in the Nifty 50 index were Axis bank, IndusInd bank, Larsen, Eicher Motors, and Hindalco, and the top losers were Sun Pharma, Divis Labs, Power Grid, TCS, and NTPC

The top gainers in the Nifty midcap index were Bank of India, Bank of Baroda, and Coromendal Int, and the top losers were Indiabulls Hsg, Dhani Services, and Dixon Technology

The smallcap top gainers were KEC intl, Karur Vysya, and Godfrey Phillip while the top losers were Sun Pharma Adv, Westlife Food, and CAMS

The most active stocks in the Nifty index in terms of value were Kotak Bank, Axis Bank, and HDFC Bank The most active stocks in terms of volume were Tata Steel, Axis bank, and  Kotak Bank

On the sectoral front, Pharma, Realty, IT, and Consumer Durables closed lower while PSU Bank, Pvt Banks, Metals, Media, and Financial Services closed higher today.
