Global Stock Market Updates

Asian stock market indexes closed mixed on Wednesday, as investors followed downbeat US markets overnight. On the other hand, hopes of an economic recovery in China after the rollback of its painful Covid curbs boosted market sentiments in China’s Shanghai and Hang Seng.

The investors in Japan returned from a long weekend today. Nikkei fell sharply on the first trading day of 2023 as investors worried about the minutes of FOMC’s December meeting.

European stock market indexes are trading higher as investors cheered a fall in French inflation and turned their attention to eurozone business activity readings along with the latest minutes from FOMC. The US future indexes, Dow Jones and Nasdaq futures are trading higher at 5.30 pm IST, indicating a positive opening for the US markets today.

Conclusion

The domestic equity benchmarks fell sharply amid weak global cues. Investors preferred to book profit ahead of the FOMC minutes and the US unemployment rate expected during the week.

Going ahead, markets will remain volatile in the coming two sessions, as the US markets will set the market direction based on the above two events. You can also follow our Daily Morning Report at 7.30 am for market direction.
